Day Trip to two textile cities Kortrijk and Roubaix

September 7, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 7:00 pm

€60 – €65

Date: Saturday, September 7.

Departure: Crown Plaza Hotel , Gerard le Grellelaan 10, 2020 Antwerpen.

Departure Time: 8 am

Arrival at the Texture museum a very interesting museum of the textile industry in Kortrijk especially focused on the flax (did you know that the famous Irish linen was made from flax from the Kortrijk area…..)

The museum is located along the Lys: the Golden river.

We will start with a cup of coffee (or tea), then a local guide will tell us all about this wonderful plant and its applications.

Then we will cross the French border and go to nearby Roubaix where the cotton industry was famous and its products from high quality. The link with Kortrijk was excellent  and nearby.

Up to “la piscine”

But we will first have lunch at the museum’s restaurant: including a main course, a drink, dessert and coffee.

The Menu choice is as follows:

  • Trio of Salmon, dille and crostinis with mascarpone and crudités
  • Club Sandwich with Mexican chicken
  • “Azur” Burger, tomato salsa, fries and salad
  • Crusty stuffed vegetables
  • Italian Focaccia
  • Steak tartare (Caesar style), fries and salad
  • Vegetarian option: fresh pasta with softened fried mixed vegetables and fresh herb pistou sauce

No need for decisions on menu choice now, a list will be circulated on the bus for you to decide on the day.

After lunch we will visit the museum la Piscine: le musée d’art et d’industrie de la ville de Roubaix.

This former swimming pool was built between 1927 and 1932 in pure art deco.

The collections : textiles, fashion, ceramics, ethnographic, are all related to the textile industry.

Return to the Crown Plaza, Antwerp, by approximately 7 pm (depending on the traffic).

The cost for this day trip will be €60 pp for members and their husband/partner and €65 pp for other guests. This will include the bus, the Textile Museum guide, lunch, morning coffee break and the entrance to the museums morning and afternoon.
