Flanders Fields Saturday Excursion

November 15, 2014 @ 8:00 am - 6:00 pm

€45

In this centenary year of the Great War, Christine De Brabandere has organized a full day trip to special places in the area of Flanders Fields, known as the Westhoek.

There will be no need to take your car, as we have organized a bus to take us back and forth to Antwerp and to the different locations in the Westhoek.

Itinerary:

8  am:      Depart by bus from the Crown Plaza hotel, Gerard Le Grellelaan 10, 2020 Antwerp.

9.30 am: We will have a hot drink at De Dreve in Zonnebeke. The café owner has written a book about the tunnelers of Flanders Fields. Clearly, a man with a lot of stories to tell.

10.30 am: Visit to the Memorial Museum Passchendaele. This very interesting museum features an extensive range of trenches.

12.30 pm: Lunch at “The Old Fiddler” in Poperinge.

2 pm:        Visit to the Talbot House in Poperinge. This house was a heaven of rest and recreation for British soldiers of all ranks in unoccupied Belgium. It became known as “little   Paris: an oasis of sanity in a world gone mad”. After the visit we can relax over tea and cake in the house.

4 pm:        Visit to the Lijssenthoek British military cemetery in Poperinge.
During the war this was the largest evacuation hospital in the Ypres salient, later it became a cemetery. Today it evokes daily reflections of the Great War.

6 pm:        Crown Plaza hotel, Antwerp.

Cost: € 45 including bus, entrance fees and guide, lunch (without drinks) and tea and cake in the Talbot House.

To register: Contact Christine De Brabandere before November 8. Then transfer the appropriate amount to the ABIW account N° BE82 0014 6806 3068 marking it “November 15 outing for your name”.

Please note that receipt of payment confirms your booking. The booking deadline is also the final date by which payment is due.
