Join us for a 100% (well, almost, let’s say 85%) Belgian tour of the Middelheim Sculpture Museum on October 12. This museum is one of the oldest and most original open-air museums in the world. It offers a fascinating overview of more than one hundred years of visual arts in a park setting. Our tour will focus on works by Belgian artists, with the odd non-Belgian thrown in for good measure.
Our guide is Ivo Verheyen, art critic and former curator of the Jakob Smitsmuseum in Mol, who you may know from the art talks he has done for ABIW.
Following the tour, we’ll be having lunch in the Middelheim Café if you’d like to join us.
Where: Middelheim (Hoog) Museum, Middelheimlaan 65. We will meet at the front gates.
Getting there: Take Bus 21 from Antwerp Quellinstraat Platform 1 to the stop Antwerpen Lindendreef; from there it is a 6 minute walk along Middelheimlaan to the front gates of the museum. Note: Bus 21 also stops at Berchem Station, Platform 24, on the way to Middelheim.
Take Tram 7 from Antwerp National Bank to the stop Berchem Koninklijkelaan; then it is a 15 minute walk along Middelheimlaan.
Time: The tour begins at 10:30 and will last about 90 minutes. (Middelheim has a supply of folding camp stools that we can use during our tour, so we’ll be able to sit while we admire the sculptures.)
Cost: The guided tour is free for ABIW members; nonmembers are welcome at a fee of €5 per guest. Lunch following the guided tour will be each participant’s individual responsibility.
To register: Please sign up with Carol Jay, providing the attendees names and indicating “Guided tour only” or “Tour + lunch”. For non-members, please transfer €5 pp to the ABIW account, marking your transfer with the non-member’s name and “Middelheim”. The deadline for registering and for payment is Friday, October 6.
Group size will be limited to 20.
